This summer, all current and former students ages 12-15* are invited to join Karli and Lois
on a Educational Theater Tour of New York City! Mark your calendars for JULY 27-31st for an unforgettable trip of a lifetime!
Informational Meeting: Tues, October 27th, 7:00pm, Brown Middle
School Cafeteria
We have contracted with a professional tour company that specializes in
theater to provide us with a 5 day/4 night tour of the city that includes the following (plus more!):
- Airfare to and from NYC
- 4 Nights Accommodations just a block away from Times Square
- Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner Daily
- Tickets to Two Broadway Shows and One Off-Broadway Show
- Two Private Master Classes with cast members from our featured performances or select industry professionals.
Specific curriculum will be announced later.
- A Question and Answer Session with cast members from one of our featured performances.
Following the performance, we will go down to the front of the stage where we will have the opportunity to meet with cast members from the show. This opportunity
gives students and chaperons a chance to ask performers about aspects of the show as well as about their training and career.
- Broadway Walking Tour: On this original tour we will hear about the titans and legends who
helped move the Broadway theatre district from its 1800's beginnings in Herald Square north to Times Square. The tour travels from the southern end of the
Broadway theatre district on 41st street to 45th street in between 6th and 8th avenues. Highlights include the rise and fall of 42nd Street, Roof Top Gardens,
legends of over 11 Broadway theaters, ghost stories and more. Our guide will be equipped with an iPad chock full of one-of-a-kind photos and videos to further
enhance our tour.
- Visit the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island: Our group will travel by ferry to two of the country's
most famous landmarks, and have time to explore the Liberty Island and Ellis Island independently.
- Radio City Stage Door Tour: On this insiders' tour, we will be guided behind the scenes of one of
New York's largest stages. Our group will get a chance to learn about the hydraulic stage, the private suite, home to "Roxy" Rothafel, inside the music hall,
and much more. The tour concludes with the opportunity to meet a member of the world famous Rockettes!
- The Tour at NBC Studios: Reimagined and reborn, the first and most famous studio in TV history
is better than ever. Enjoy behind the scenes access to the studios where shows are made like Saturday Night Live, The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon,
The Late Show with Seth Meyers, and more. Discover how scripts are written, and how shows are produced. Then experience it first hand as we produce our own
TV segment of which you'll get a digital copy!
- We have secured the services of a Professional Tour Coordinator/Concierge during the entire
duration of our stay. Their guides are matched to the specific interests and needs of each group, and all of their tour guides are performing artists in
New York who are happy to share their experiences as performers and expertise as New Yorkers with your group.
- We will also have some free time to spend in exploration of the city, including Central Park,
China Town, Shopping in SoHo and a visit to the 9/11 Memorial.
- All taxes, tips and gratuities are included as well.
We are looking for approximately
20 students (ages 12-15) plus
parent chaperons to join us on our adventure this
summer, July 27th - 31st. We will be helping to coordinate
fund raising efforts to cover or ease the financial costs of this amazing trip.
We are also in search of a fund-raising committee to get to work on some amazing ideas we have. We hope to make this affordable for EVERYONE who wants
to go.
Initial registration will open following our parent informational meeting on
Tuesday, October 27th at 7:00pm. Please attend
to have all your questions answered - attendance does not mean you are committed!

All trip attendees must be current or former students who
have performed in one or more of our productions or camps. Students must be 12 by June 1st, 2015 and must not turn 16 before August 31st, 2015. If your
child does not meet the age requirement, you are welcome to come to our informational meeting anyway. We intend to offer this trip every three years for
our middle-school aged students.
Northwest Youth Theatre is an Oregon Not-for-Profit 501(c)3 Corporation. Its purpose is to provide education and experience in the performing arts to children regardless of their past experience or training. It was founded by Lois Lents in Portland, OR in 1995, and offers youth a variety of performing opportunities, through after school and summer day camp programs for children from preschool through high school. NYT classes are filled without requiring students to audition — we believe that by working on performance skills and team-building activities in the rehearsal process, every group of young people can produce an excellent program. In addition, NYT policy is that no child will be denied access to our programs because of inability to pay. Contact us for information on tuition assistance.
